How To Clean A Dirty Mirror Without Streaks!

CHRIStal Clean - How To Clean A Dirty Mirror Without Streaks!

Mirrors are great for making a statement in your home interior decoration, but only if they are clean!

However, cleaning glass is not a walk in the park—wiping a mirror can make it messier and full of streaks!

To clean a mirror properly, you have to avoid streaks! Here you'll learn different ways to clean a mirror.

Method 1. Cleaning stains with rubbing alcohol

An untreated stain will turn into streaks during the mirror cleaning. Alcohol can help you treat stains like toothpaste splatters, fingerprints, and makeup marks.

What you need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Cotton pads

How you do it:

  1. Soak a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol
  2. Dab and rub the stains with the cotton pad.
  3. Keep rubbing the stain until it disappears. Pour more alcohol into the cotton if it dries. If the cotton pad seems dirty, change it for a new one.

After removing the visible stains, you should wipe the mirror. Use your regular glass cleaner or follow one of the methods below!

Method 2. Wipe it clean with a vinegar solution

Everyone uses glass cleaners to wipe mirrors. However, the fewer chemicals you use, the less likely you'll end up with a streaked glass. You can make a homemade mirror cleaner by mixing half vinegar and half water.

Follow these recommendations while wiping your mirrors:

  • Use a lint-free microfiber cloth. Paper and other fabrics can leave residues, provoking streaks.
  • Spray the vinegar solution directly to the microfiber cloth and not to the mirror. Otherwise, the solution can tarnish your mirror.
  • Wipe in a zigzag pattern and not in a circular motion.
  • Avoid wetting the window frame, as vinegar can damage some materials.

Method 3. Clean a blurry mirror with full-strength vinegar

Even if you keep cleaning your mirror regularly, buildup residue can make it appear blurry or foggy. To remove this thin film of residue, wipe it with full-strength vinegar.

Note:

Don't spray or wipe the vinegar to the mirror frame. Wood and some other materials might react badly to the acidic nature of vinegar.

Method 4. Remove buildup residue and fog with shaving cream

A trick for removing the residue that can make your mirror seem foggy is wiping it with cheap shaving cream.

  1. Spread shaving cream in the mirror and leave it for some minutes.
  2. With a clean towel or microfiber cloth, wipe and rub the mirror until the foggy appearance is gone.

Bonus: prevent fogging for a couple of days

The main issue for bathroom mirrors is steam condensation—which causes fogging. You can prevent it for a couple of days with these quick fixes.

Dish soap and vinegar:

  1. Mix vinegar and water in equal proportions, then add a teaspoon of liquid dish soap.
  2. Spray it carefully in the mirror and let it rest for some minutes.
  3. Wipe the solution with a clean microfiber cloth

Shaving cream:

  1. Put a dollop of shaving cream in a clean rag or towel and wipe the mirror with it.
  2. With a clean towel, wipe the residue from the mirror.
